Chalkboard Playhouse

When we finished our basement years ago we finished off the "under the stairs" area for the kids. My husband made a little door and a window trying to make it look somewhat like a house. At some point I wanted do something with the area. I was thinking a wall mural of some kind. Maybe a grocery store or a library would be cute. However, I am not an artist and I am too cheap to higher a real artist. So, I got out my chalkboard paint and painters tape and taped away.

It took three good coats of paint and it was finished. Isn't it cute?

Looking at the pictures, I am not sure why we decided to put an electric outlet right below the little window. What were we thinking? I should have painted it with chalkboard paint.

  16. Instead of painting over the outlet, you could build a window box to cover over it. Then store your chalk, erasers and a few flowers in it.

  21. Years ago, I had a little "shed" in my backyard. It was very primative; walls were white, horizontal pine boards. The very bottom board on one of the walls had a small hole in it so using black paint, I painted a black arch over/around it and wrote (in small letters with a black permanent marker) "Home Sweet Home". It looked like a little mousehole, the kind you would see in a cartoon! Too cute and always gave smiles to those who entered. (The shed that is, not the mousehole!) :-)
