Rachel's Family room

Rachel's Family room

1.  Barnwood frame made into a chalkboard.  Hobby lobby has great prices on the frame.   Paint a board to attach to the frame with rustoleums chalkboard paint tinted to Benjamin Moore Silver Marlin.

2. Target Hawken Woven basket for storage.

3. Paint your front door black.  This will warm up the room and tie in other elements mentioned in the previous design boards.

4.  Drop cloths used as drapes and bamboo blinds would look great in your front window.

5.  Add some pillows like the ones shown or make a few from the chevron fabric used in your master and school room.   I recommend painting your family room walls Benjamin Moore Husky.

1.  Glass lamps like these that I made from Whole Foods apple juice jugs.  I got inexpensive burlap lamp shades at Meijer.  We can make a couple for you at some point if you would like.

2. Ikea Hemnes night stands with Ikea Knipsa bastets for storage

3. Gray chevron pillows with a "D" for your hubby and "R" for you

4. White curtain panels trimmed with left over chevron and a band of teal at the bottom to act as closet doors.

5. Teal accent wall or just a large teal square painted on the wall above your bed to act as a headboard.

6.  Fun quilt at the bottom of your bed to add color and tie in the teal color.

7. Comforter with white duvet and Euro pillows with shams.  I actually have an extra comforter and Euro pillows minus the shams that we are not using if you would like it.  It has a flat top unlike the one in the picture.

8.  Diy art above the bed.  Super fun way to add texture and color at low cost.

Rachel's Dining/school Room

Rachel's Dining/school Room

1.  Ikea Vika Amon/Vika Annefors to replace your current desk next to the window.  This
system is meant to span the entire back wall under your window and will house Kinipsa baskets.
The expedit 4 cube shelves
will be attached to the wall and frame out the window housing Kinipsa baskets for hidden storage.  Placing a bamboo roman
blind at the top of the expedit shelves will give the look that the window is much taller than it
actually is and will bring a nice wood tone to the room.

2. Paint your back door with black chalkboard paint.  The black will ground your room
and it will add an extra writing space to your school room.  Paint color for the walls, Benjamin Moore Alsakan Husky.

3.  Cover a huge cork board with a drop cloth and trim out the edges with dark
upholstery tacks.  The dark tacks will bring out the black in the door and gray in the floor.
The fabric will add warmth to the room and add nice clean lines
to a display place that can other wise look cluttered.

4.  Your current table is perfect.  However, I would try turning it so that the length runs with the back wall, matching the Vika Amon desk.  Place your long bench
on the side of the table when you first walk into the room from the kitchen.  Your chairs
can be on the opposite side of the table and can be moved to the Vika desk when needed.
Cover your floor in large dark gray vinyl.

5. Billy bookcases with wallpapered backs can go along the wall on either side of the entrance to your girls room.   Adding one above the doorway horizontally can combine the two units.   Adding doors to the bottom
add hidden storage and the open above can house your collection of books.  Add basket to the open shelves to hide the
art supplies and other items you would rather not look at on a daily basis.

6.  Add chevron gray and white fabric with a coral band at the bottom as a curtain to your girls room.
This could be hung under the horizontal billy bookcase or if you decide to not add the shelf, hang the curtain at the top of each of the bookcases on either side of the doorway.  This will join the two units together nicely.

7.  These are your trofast work boxes.

8.  I would hang similar cork boards as the large one mentioned in #3 above.   Hanging three smaller ones above the trofast will add space for items you want to display.   Use more Kinipsa baskets on top of the trofast system for added storage that is nicely hidden.

1. The vanity  painted Castle by Rustoleum.
Add a Dash and Albert rug in a 3x5 in front of the vanity.
Gray blue towels with wall hook hung on the wall to the right of the sink.
A basket or wire bin for the top of the sink would look cute and tidy housing
soap, lotion, and extra hand towels.

2. Above the towel hook hang a letter K that is decoupaged with a map of where you and your spouse met.

3.  Target basket used as a trash can

4. Mirror hung above the sink that is framed in barn wood.

5.  Hang a scripture sign on the wall left of the sink (the wall to right while sitting on the toilet)
Below the sign hang a couple wire bins that hold toilet paper.

6.  For the wall in front of the toilet hang matching white ikea frames with
pictures of the kids.  Under the frames hang a towel rack for extra towels.

We Are Finally Moved In!

It has taken a couple of months but we are finally moved in.   There were more renovations than we expected and quite a few ups and downs along the way.  I hope to get a post together of our entire experience soon.  For now, I will leave you with a little sneak peak of one of the very few rooms that are closest to being finished.  The kids rooms were first on our list.  We wanted them to feel at home as quickly as possible.

Before:  The floors were in really bad shape.  They are actually sub-floors.  It was not in our budget to add new flooring on top.

Progress:  We still have shutters and artwork to hang and bookshelves to fill but for now the girls are enjoying there sweet little farmhouse bedroom.
